New from Reebok: UltraLite Velocity 8" Combat Boots
November, 2012
Reebok has come out with a new line of performance boots that I thought I should share with you: the Reebok Velocity 8" Performance Boots.
All boots in this line have a dual density oil and slip resistant outsole and EVA cushion midsole with rubber grip tread. EVA is not as durable as polyurethane, but the boots do have polyurethane cushions at the heel and ball of the foot for shock absorption and a polyurethane liner beneath that so that the shock is distributed across the entire insole. All of this is lined with nylex to wick away moisture and is removable if you prefer to use your own insoles. The uppers are made of suede leather, which is comfortable, attractive, and requires little break in, and ballistic nylon for durability. Scratch resistant eyelets means they will keep looking good even after hard use and paracord 550 laces will give a secure fit every time.
There are two main varieties of this boot: soft toe and composite toe. The soft toe boots are good as trainers. They do not meet the ASTM F2413 standard for protective footwear. They are also 100% non-metallic, which makes it faster and easier to go through security checkpoints because they won’t set off metal detectors. The soft toe comes in men's and women’s desert tan versions for military use. Click here for more options for women's combat boots. These are made with side air vents or drainage holes to increase breathability when worn in arid environments like those in which so many of our troops are currently deployed.
The composite toe version has a non-metallic toe that has been tested and proven to protect your toes as well as steel does. However, it won't rust, set off metal detectors, or conduct heat, cold, or electricity. The composite toe version is therefore ASTM F2413 approved protective and electrical hazard safety footwear, giving your foot extra protection against falling objects and live wires. It also has a side zipper for quick changes in and out of the boot. The composite toe boot is made on a men’s last in desert tan and sage green, again with side air vents for military requirements.
There are law enforcement versions of both the soft and the composite toe. Both have full grain leather instead of suede leather to allow for polishing. They do not have air vents, but they both have side zippers.
Bottom line, if you like Reebok and you're ready to get another pair, consider giving the Reebok Velocity 8" Performance Boot with Side Zipper a try. They're lightweight, moisture wicking, and comfortable.
