A tactical vests main purpose is to provide a tactical advantage to the wearer by first and foremost allowing quick access to ammunition, pistols, grenades, knives, medical supplies, gas masks, as well as any other piece of gear the mission or combat situation calls for. Time is often the biggest tactical advantage in any given situation, so if you can re-load, access critical gear, and be prepared faster than your enemies can, you will be one step closer to victory. Many tactical vests also have ballistic armor plates that can be inserted, however, these vests are often referred to as plate carrier vests. The ballistic plating provides defensive capabilities, but also add weight and bulk which may not be wanted if the mission necessitates being quick on your feet.
Most tactical vests are built with the MOLLE system, or some type of pockets to allow custom loadouts and gear attachments. The MOLLE system has become the industry standard for both military tactical vests as well as law enforcement and other special forces. Its simplicity and ease of use provides many tactical advantages including the ability to load up and move out quickly, as well as access any gear or ammunition attached to the vest very quickly. It is for these reasons and because they provide superior tactical advantages that tactical vests are seen on almost all soldiers and law enforcement officials when on missions or potential combat zones.
