Celox can stop even potentially lethal bleeding fast. It is easy to use (just pour, pack and apply pressure), very safe (tested to class 3 CE Mark standards) and extremely effective.
Pouring the CELOX into the wound prevents
blood loss by forming a gel-like plug as the
CELOX links to the surface of red blood cells.
When mixed with blood, Celox forms a robust gel like clot in 30 seconds. It works independently of the bodies normal clotting processes. Celoxs clotting ability has been proven to work in the cold (hypothermia) or in the presence of common anti-coagulants such as warfarin. It generates no heat and will not burn the casualty or care giver.
In clinical tests by the US marines, Celox was the only product to give 100% survival. It gave a strong stable MAP (mean arterial blood pressure) and was also the only product to give robust clotting with no rebleeding.
Haemostatic agents have been developed to achieve
control of haemorrhages in those areas (neck, groin,
armpit etc.) where a tourniquet cannot be applied. These
agents can be used to make removing the tourniquet
possible when there are long delays in the evacuation of
the wounded person.

How Celox Works
Celox granules are actually very high surface area flakes. When they come in contact with blood, Celox swells, gels, and sticks together to make a gel like clot.
Celox stops bleeding by bonding with red blood cells and gelling with fluids to produce a sticky pseudo clot. This clot sticks well to moist tissue to plug the bleeding site.
Celox does not set off the normal clotting cascade, it only clots the blood it comes directly into contact with.
Celoxs mode of action has a number of big benefits:
- Celoxs clotting ability has been proven to work in the presence of common anti-coagulants such as warfarin
- Celoxs clotting ability has been proven to work in the presence of heparin
- Celoxs rapidly clots hypothermic (cold) blood
Celox is made with chitosan, a natural polysaccharide. Chitosan has a known metabolic pathway. That means any left in the body is broken down by the bodies normal enzymes and converted into materials normally present in the body.
Chitosan is digested by lysozyme , a human enzyme which is present is tears, saliva and mucus. It breaks down to give glucosamine a sugar already present in the body and helps lubricate joints. Reference (Int. J. Biol. Macromol., 1992, Vol 14 August).
