The history of desert army boots starts with Nathan Clark of the infamous Clark family. Mr. Clark noticed that soldiers in Burma were wearing "crepe-soled rough suede shoes". The shoes were very lightweight, durable and comfortable. These shoes were made and sold in the bazaars in Cairo. The style of the shoes was based on the Dutch Voortrekker and was introduced to desert warfare by the South Africa Division of the Eighth Army. When Clark returned to Somerset, England in 1949 he teamed up with pattern-cutter Bill Tuxhill and recreated the shoe with a two-piece upper body and crepe sole.

The boots were remade several times including in the sixties and became popular in the Beatnik Culture. In 1967 when the Deputy Leader of the House of Lords Lord Shackleton returned from Aden wearing a pair of handmade desert boots. Desert boots went on into the Mod Revival era of the Seventies and Eighties. Paul Weller and William Gallaher still wear them.

The look the two entrepreneurs went for had a Navy blazer, Scottish-tweeted trousers and a buttoned down shirt with a silk paisley-scarf. these days the desert boot is worn with many different kinds of outfits. The boots can be worn with regular clothing such as jeans and wear comfortably in any environment. The boots can be worn in your home when performing dirty tasks such as pipe cleaning of moving furniture. Many lumberjacks are known to wear these boots when cutting trees due to the tough outer material that protects their feet from insects, sharp rocks, and other hazards that come with outside work.
