GearGuide Entry: A General Overview of Leather Rifle Sling : December 27, 2012
Important Things to Consider When Buying a Rifle Sling
Buying a rifle sling is one of the most important accessories you can buy. For those who shot weapons in the military know the simple rifle sling will allow you to steady the weapon and keep it from shaking, allow you to easily transport the rifle over your shoulder, and many other benefits. A rifle without a good sling is practically worthless in most situations. Sure you can shoot the gun without a sling but how accurate will it be if you are tired from carrying the rifle like a British soldier during the Revolutionary War?
There are many things you should consider when buying a sling. Here are some of the most important.
Padding
Is the sling padded? If it is just a piece of fabric with no padding then it will dig into your shoulder and be extremely uncomfortable.
Quality
You also need to ensure that the quality of the sling is high. A cheaply made sling will often have threading that comes loose and then eventually ruins the entire sling.
Single Point or Double Point Sling?
Most people automatically assume that all slings are double-pointed, meaning that the sling hooks on to your rifle in 2 places. The traditional sling design is a double point sling. Many people may prefer a single point sling such as when they are in a war zone.
Single point slings are often used by the Military, especially in urban warfare situations. The single sling makes tactical cornering when searching buildings to be done easier. Single point designs are also good for people who simply like to carry their rifle this way. You may have gotten used to carrying your rifle in the military this way and simply prefer this rifle carrying method for both comfort and tactical reasons.
Variety
When you buy a rifle sling you need a variety of both styles and colors. At afmo.com we have the most popular slings and the most commonly purchased colors.
